Nearly 2,300 total coronavirus cases reported in Muscogee County and surrounding area Sunday
Muscogee County and its surrounding areas reported a total of 2,298 in the 1 p.m. Sunday update from the Georgia Department of Public Health.
Between 1 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday, 62 new cases were reported in the 18-county area around Columbus. There are now a total of 126 coronavirus-related deaths reported.
The largest increases came in Muscogee (28 new cases) and Crisp (10) counties. The 24 remaining cases were reported in Sumter, Troup, Dooly, Harris, Stewart, Clay, Talbot, Chattahoochee and Quitman counties. All others remained the same.
Muscogee County is now 10th in the state for total number of COVID-19 cases.

- Chattahoochee: 24, 0, 5

- Schley: 16, 1, 7

- Webster: 11, 1, 4

Georgia’s West-Central Health District covers 16 counties: Chattahoochee, Clay, Crisp, Dooly, Harris, Macon, Marion, Muscogee, Quitman, Randolph, Schley, Stewart, Sumter, Talbot, Taylor and Webster.
Troup and Meriwether counties are not in the West-Central Health District but because of their proximity to Columbus, the Ledger-Enquirer will track those numbers as well.
Alabama
The number of novel coronavirus cases in Alabama has now reached 14,260, according to the Alabama Department of Public Health’s dashboard at 1 p.m. EST Sunday.
The number of reported cases in Lee County stands at 492, while Russell County’s total stands at 126.
There have been 185,799 tests done statewide. Private labs are not required to report negative tests — meaning it’s possible that the actual number of tests conducted is greater.
The state reports 551 COVID-19-related deaths Sunday and 1,609 hospitalizations.
The state of Alabama now reports the number of presumed recoveries from COVID-19 on a weekly basis. On Sunday, the state reported 7,951 presumed recoveries throughout Alabama.
