Columbus police release details about deadly wreck on Steam Mill Road

Columbus police have released more details concerning the deadly Thursday night wreck on Steam Mill Road.

Officials said 31-year-old Claudia Johnson was killed in a collision that occurred around 9:50 p.m. Thursday near Englewood Drive. She was pronounced dead on the scene about an hour later, Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan said.

Lt. Clyde Dent with the patrol division said a 2009 Hyundai Accent was headed east on Steam Mill Road as a Ford Crown Victoria was traveling west bound on the same roadway.

Johnson was a passenger in the Hyundai, officials said.

“The Hyundai was either attempting to make a left turn into a private driveway or make a left turn on Englewood Drive and was struck by the Crown Victoria,” Dent stated. “Any of the rest is going to be pretty much speculation without any further investigation.”

Dent said the wreck remains under investigation.
