LIST: Event cancellations, suspensions in Chattahoochee Valley due to coronavirus
To prevent the spread or limit the impact of COVID-19, several area events, meetings and classes in Columbus and the greater Chattahoochee Valley have been canceled.
The city of Columbus has canceled city events and closed city recreation facilities.

The L-E has compiled a list of events that have been canceled so far:
Events
- Paws Humane Society has canceled all upcoming events until further notice, including the annual Barks and Blues Festival fundraiser.
- Fort Benning’s Maneuver Center of Excellence has postponed this spring’s Army competitions. These include the Infantry Week competitions: International Sniper Competition, Lacerda Cup All-Army Combatives Championship, Best Mortar Competition and Best Ranger Competition, all scheduled in April, and Armor’s Sullivan Cup, scheduled in May.
- The RiverCenter has suspended events through April 13. Dates for Complexions Contemporary Ballet’s two-day educational residency on April 14-15 and public performance on April 16 will be rescheduled to a later date. Information on rescheduled performance dates are posted to RiverCenter’s website.
Columbus State University events such as Schwob School of Music student recitals, the Diversity Forum and Girls in the Game Luncheon have been canceled. Autism Hope Center’s Annual Autism Resource Fair and Light It Up Blue Columbus 5K and Family Fun Walk have been postponed until further notice. The center’s Coffee and Donuts, Game Night and Support Group events have been canceled until further notice.
Great Wolf Lodge has extended the closure of its resorts through May 19.
March
The Columbus Symphony Orchestra will reschedule its March 28 concert “Firebird & Carmina Burana.” A new date for the concert has not been announced.
- Uptown Columbus has canceled the Food Truck Festival scheduled for March 28.
The Springer Opera House has suspended ticket sales for “Singin’ in the Rain,” which was scheduled to run through March 29.
April
The Boys & Girls Clubs in Collaboration with the Women’s Giving Circle Committee have postponed the 7th annual Women’s Giving Circle planned for April 9 at Green Island Hills. A new date has not been determined.
The Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office has postponed its annual Easter Egg Roll, which was scheduled for April 11. The sheriff’s office says a Family Fun Day will be planned for later in the year to replace the event.
The Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office’s fishing tournament to benefit the Georgia Sheriff’s Youth Home has been canceled. The tournament was scheduled for April 18 and may be rescheduled.
- Fort Benning has canceled all events that draw 150 or more visitors to include unit family days and graduations until further notice. The EFMP Field Day, scheduled for April 23, is postponed with a later date to be determined. The Tax Center is closed until further notice. The weekly Newcomers’ Orientation and Soldier for Life Center’s Wednesday Connection events have been suspended until further notice.
Temple Israel canceled its annual Deli Day fundraiser.
Girls Inc. of Columbus will be closed through April 5.
May
The Phenix City Russell County Relay for Life has been has been rescheduled for May 29th. The local Relay committee is working on the remaining details such as location, time, etc. Call Dimple Davis at 706-593-9101 for more information.
The Pop UP Video Film Festival has been postponed until May 30.
June
Girls Inc. has postponed its 7th annual Strong, Smart and Bold luncheon, to be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at St. Luke Ministry Center on June 23.
Museums and centers
- The National Infantry Museum will close to the public effective Tuesday, March 17. The museum will remain open for previously scheduled private events. The NIM will monitor the situation before deciding on a reopening date. The museum’s DownRange Virtual Reality Competition planned for March 22 has been canceled and the Ales of the Revolution event at Chattabrewchee Southern Brewhouse on March 26 will be rescheduled. Many private events held at the museum have also been postponed or canceled and those planning to attend one of the events are encouraged to contact the host in advance.
Columbus State University educational outreach centers including Pasaquan Art Environment, Coca-Cola Space Science Center, Oxbow Meadows Environmental Learning Center and the Bo Bartlett Art Center are closed until March 29.
The Columbus Museum will be closed from March 16 until April 7. The museum has also postponed its annual fundraiser Farm to Table(aux): Women Making History until September 17. Galleries can be viewed online here.
All Chattahoochee Valley Libraries will be closed until Sunday, April 5. This includes the suspension of all community meetings and outreach services. The book drop and 24-hour branches are also closed. Due dates and holds will be extended and customers are not required to return any materials.
The Troup Harris Regional Library is closed until further notice. According to the library system, they may reopen on April 1 providing favorable conditions.
Easterseals West Georgia will be closed through March 27.
The Columbus Botanical Garden is closed through April 5, and all programs and events during that time have been canceled as well.
Historic Westville is closed through April 5. Market Days at Westville, originally scheduled for March 22, has been postponed until further notice.
Schools
- Columbus State University is among the 26 institutions in the University System of Georgia that will move to online instruction for all courses for the remainder of the semester.
- Auburn University students will receive remote instruction through the end of the spring semester. The university’s spring commencement is postponed.
- Troy University will transition all classes to online or alternate delivery formats March 16 and will resume in-person classes April 6.
- Columbus Technical College has moved all classes online through March 27. The campus will be closed to the general public March 16 through April 6.
- Chattahoochee Valley Community College’s campus is closed to all students March 16 through April 3.
Georgia Military College and its 14 campuses, GMC Corps of Cadets and GMC Prep School will be closed March 18-31. Students will do online classes and faculty and staff will work from home during that time.

Government
- The Georgia General Assembly will be suspended indefinitely starting March 14.
Sports
- SEC regular season and championship events are canceled until March 30.
- NCAA men’s and women’s basketball tournaments are canceled, as well as all championships in every winter and spring sport.
- Dixie Youth Baseball is suspending all activities until after April 4.
Gyms/Fitness Centers
- Orangetheory has closed all corporate-owned studios. The goal is to reopen March 31.
Closed until April 3: 29th Street Gym, Boxwood Recreation Center, Carver Park Recreation, Fluellen Recreation Center, Frank Chester Recreation Center, Northside Recreation Center, Psalmond Road Recreation Center, Shirley Winston Recreation Center.
Novo Fitness studio is closed until further notice.
Planet Fitness is offering “Home Work-Ins” that will be streamed live on Planet Fitness’ Facebook page. Planet Fitness offers their live workouts daily at 7 p.m. EST. Classes will be led by Planet Fitness certified trainers and special guests.
