A new right turn lane is coming to this off-ramp in Columbus. Here are the details

The Georgia Department of Transportation recently awarded a contract for a Muscogee County construction project near Macon Road in Columbus.

According to the Georgia Department of Transportation’s website, the project will add a right-turn lane to the southbound off-ramp of Interstate 185 at State Route 22 Spur/Macon Road. Southeastern Site Development Inc. was awarded the contract for $513,000, according to a press release.

The initial project bids were received on April 17, but preliminary engineering began in 2018. The completion date for the project is March 31, 2021, according to GDOT’s website.

The contract for this construction project was one of 19 awarded statewide on May 1. Other projects still on-going in the area include:

  • Fort Benning Road Roundabout/Streetscapes

  • Calumet Bridge Replacement

  • Claradon Avenue Bridge Replacement

  • Phase I of the Buena Vista Road/Spiderweb

According to GDOT, information on lane closures and traffic delays will be available before construction begins.
