Celebration of life is set for 3 members of Columbus area family killed in car crash
Funeral arrangements are set for three members of a Columbus area family killed in a car crash last month.
The celebration of life ceremony for Jimmy Napier Jr., 33, his wife, Ami, 32, and their son, Hudson, 8, will be Sept. 16, at 1 p.m., in the Jordan Vocational High School College and Career Academy auditorium, 3200 Howard Ave., according to the obituary from McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory.
Jimmy was a construction teacher at Jordan. He and Ami were Jordan graduates. They died along with Hudson from injuries suffered in an Aug. 26 collision with a semi-truck on Highway 80 East, near Garrett-Harrison Stadium in Phenix City. The Napiers’ 4-year-old son, Grayson, was hospitalized but released Sept. 3 to finish recovering at home with relatives in Smiths Station.
Several fundraisers have been established to help the survivors. Click on this link for a list.
Jimmy’s stepfather, Aaron Rollins, told the Ledger-Enquirer in an email Thursday, although Jordan’s auditorium has approximately 1,100 seats, “We discussed the idea of overflow with Principal (Ryan Hutson) and his staff at Jordan but we really have no idea how many may want to attend.“
The service will be livestreamed on Carson Collins’ Facebook page.
“There will also be a YouTube link,” Rollins said, “but that has not yet been set up.”
Rollins requests attendees not block the driveways of homes in the Jordan neighborhood.
“We are thankful for Jordan and would encourage anyone in attendance to be respectful of the property and help ensure that we don’t leave a big mess to be cleaned up after,” he said. “Many have asked about flowers but the family suggests that if you feel compelled to show your love or want to donate, that you give to Children’s Hospital of Atlanta where Grayson and so many other kids are treated, The Children’s Miracle Network which helps locally and beyond, your favorite charity or give to Grayson himself at Synovus Bank by advising the teller that they want to give to the account In The Name of the Napier Family. There is no dress code for the event.”
