2-year-old among survivors. How to help Lee County families after Christmas Eve tragedy
A fundraiser has been launched to help the survivors of the Christmas Eve double homicide in Lee County.
Madison Day, 18, and Kayden Lynch, 19, were shot and killed Tuesday afternoon in the area of Lee Road 2113 and U.S. 29 North in Beulah, according to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.
Lee County Sheriff Jay Jones told the Ledger-Enquirer the 18-year-old male suspect is Jalen Dashawn Holmes. He was arrested and charged with two counts of capital murder, two counts of third-degree domestic violence and one count of attempted murder, Jones said.
Holmes reportedly had assaulted his mother and had taken a handgun from the mother’s residence, the LCSO’s news release says. The mother lived next door to the residence where the victims were found, according to the LCSO.
Evidence indicates Holmes left his mother’s residence after assaulting her and went next door to the residence where the victims were found, the news release says.
“This devastating incident has left our families and friends in profound grief,” fundraiser organizer Kathleen Kirby wrote on the account’s page at GoFundMe.com. “We are setting up this Fund for burial costs and anything there after. A portion of these proceeds will also be used to benefit Madison’s 2-year old daughter, Nevaeh.
“We are hoping that justice will be served for this senseless act of violence.”
As of Friday at 1:30 p.m., $1,900 from 14 donors had been raised toward the $13,000 goal since the account opened Thursday.
The LCSO asks anyone with information about this case to call its investigation division at 334-737-7155 or Central Alabama Crime Stoppers at 334-215-STOP(7867).
