Part of a major downtown Columbus street temporarily will be closed next week.

A section of First Avenue between Ninth Street and 10th Street will be closed Aug. 4-8, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., each day, the Columbus Consolidated Government announced Monday.

Except for those hours, southbound traffic may use that section of First Avenue, according to the news release, but the northbound lanes will remain closed to accommodate construction of the Columbus Judicial Center, to be named after the late Superior Court Judge John D. Allen Sr.

Next week’s temporary road closure will allow for the disassembly of a tower crane at the construction site, the news release says. CCG plans to have signs along Ninth Street, Broadway, 10th Street and Second Avenue directing motorists and pedestrians through the detour route.

For questions about this closure, call CCG inspections and code director Ryan Pruett at 706-225-3878.
