Coroner identifies pedestrian killed by vehicle on Veterans Parkway in Columbus

Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan has released the identity of the pedestrian who died after being struck by a vehicle Sunday in Columbus on Veterans Parkway near Almond Road.

Bryan identified the victim as 70-year-old Lawrence Allen Sutton. Bryan said Sutton’s cause of death was blunt-force trauma to the head and torso. The manner of death was accidental, according to Bryan.

Columbus Police Department public information officer Brittany Santiago told the Ledger-Enquirer Monday no charges had been filed, but the incident remained under investigation.

Bryan said Sutton arrived at a local hospital at 6:48 a.m. and was pronounced dead at 2:08 p.m.
