We have a winner! Here’s who local voters picked as best brewery in Columbus
The votes are in: Chattabrewchee Southern Brewhouse is the city’s best brewery.
The veteran-owned taproom beat out Scofflaw Brewing Co. and The Cannon Brew Pub in the final round of reader voting to claim the crown, and we went to see for ourselves why Columbus loves it so much.
Chattabrewchee Southern Brewhouse on 6th Avenue built its win on the kind of low-key, community-first vibe that’s hard to fake.
We went for Wicked Wednesday
We wanted to start our holiday weekend off strong, so Mike and I enlisted a few friends to come for a beer, but we wound up staying for three. This is probably the exact reason why it won over the other bigger operations in the final round.
There’s always something fun to do at Chattabrewchee during the summer, and we just happened to wander in on “Wicked Wednesday.”
This is the brewhouse’s way to nudge us over the hump with big “possum energy,” because we “deserve a beer for making it halfway through the week.” RIGHT?
What we tried:
- SIC (Second in Command) CoPilot: It’s a strawberry sour with a bright berry acidity and crisp, clean edges and a soft fruit sweetness
- Night Sortie: A smooth oat stout with notes of roasted malt, milk chocolate and fresh coffee, balanced by a soft, velvety body
- Plane seltzer: A clean hard seltzer with a light body, subtle effervescence, brewed to be ultra refreshing and mixable
- Vacaciones: A crisp, easy-drinking Mexican lager brewed for sun, sky and smooth landings, light-bodied with subtle corn sweetness and a clean finish
There are also a few non-alcoholic options for the non-drinkers in your group.

The vibes
For one, there’s no pretense. It has a vintage feel that also has an incredible beer experience that also has both indoor and outdoor spaces.
By and large, the self-serve taps and handwritten boards give it a cozy feel with on-point and friendly service. It’s pet and fellowship-friendly spaces so it gives such a welcoming environment, that it feels like a natural place to gather for good conversation with good friends and good beer.
The rotation of food trucks offer a nice variety, but its proximity to Uptown is convenient enough that you can sort it out even on the nights without it.
