Man dies after being shot multiple times in Columbus, coroner says
A 24-year-old man is dead after being shot multiple times Monday.
Jaleel Merritt was pronounced dead by Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan at 10:27 p.m. at Piedmont Columbus Regional.
Merritt was found walking along Brown Avenue when a “Good Samaritan” brought him to the hospital in a personal vehicle, Bryan said.
According to Bryan, it’s currently unknown where the shooting occurred and if Merritt was shot at the location he was found at.
An autopsy will be conducted for Merritt tomorrow to determine more details regarding his death.
This incident comes only a day after a possible gang-related fatal shooting in east Columbus on Sunday.
Columbus police responded to 1803 Huffman Drive around 2:32 p.m. and found that Orlando Carter, 27, had been shot. He later died of his injuries at St. Francis Hospital.
