Columbus man gunned down Christmas Day marks city’s 41st homicide of 2019, coroner says

A 20-year-old man gunned down on Christmas Day has become Columbus’ 41st homicide of 2019.

Police called at 7:14 p.m. to 4539 Old Cusseta Road at Parkway Place Apartments found the youth mortally wounded, authorities said. Medics were unable to resuscitate him.

Deputy Coroner Charles Newton pronounced him dead at 8:10 p.m.

On Thursday morning, Coroner Buddy Bryan identified the victim as Devonte Owens. Owens lived at Parkway Place, Bryan said.
