Authorities identify Phenix City man killed in suspected Columbus gunfight

One man was killed and another seriously wounded in what investigators suspect was a gunfight between the two Sunday night, Columbus police said Monday.

Shovown Baker, 34, of Phenix City, died from multiple gunshot wounds at Piedmont Columbus Regional, said Muscogee County Deputy Coroner Charles Newton. Baker was pronounced dead at 8:44 p.m., Newton said.

Police said they first were called around 8 p.m. to Patsy Lane and Walker Street, where they found a 27-year-old man wounded. He was taken by ambulance to Piedmont Columbus Regional, where he was listed in critical condition, authorities said.

Soon after, officers were dispatched to 2464 Rice St., where they found Baker wounded. He too was rushed to the hospital, where he died from his wounds.

Homicide detectives currently are investigating the shooting.
