Teen arrested in fatal shooting near Wilson Apartments will be charged as an adult, cops say
A 16-year-old boy has been charged with murder in a May shooting near Wilson Apartments that left another teen dead, police said Tuesday.
The teen turned himself in to police on Monday and has been charged with murder as an adult under Georgia Senate Bill 440, according to a press release from the Columbus Police Department.
He will make an initial appearance in Recorder’s Court at 8 a.m. Tuesday.
Around 3 p.m. May 22, Columbus police responded to calls about shots being fired at 3400 Eighth Ave. Upon arrival, officers found 16-year-old Lamarion Wright lying face down on Belmont Street with a gunshot wound. He was later pronounced dead of his injuries.
Columbus police said they expect to make more arrests in this incident.
