Police charge 14-year-old with murder in fatal shooting outside Columbus nightclub
Columbus police have charged a 14-year-old boy in a fatal shooting outside a Victory Drive nightclub where investigators allege he and others had gone to break into cars.
The juvenile, whom police did not name, is charged with murder and entering an auto. Charged as an adult, he’s to have a preliminary hearing in Columbus Recorder’s Court at 9 a.m. Monday.
He is the second teen charged in the June 5 homicide at the Foxy Lady Lounge. The first was Cecil Brian Berguin, 18, who faced the same charges in a hearing on Thursday.
Detective Matt Sitler testified then that Berguin was among several people in different cars who went to the 3023 Victory Drive lounge after 2 a.m. to break into vehicles parked outside.
Berguin was recorded on surveillance video entering 40-year-old Samuel London’s car as London got in at the same time and tried to get the 18-year-old out, Sitler said. London was shot during the struggle, and was pronounced dead at Piedmont Columbus Regional at 3:03 a.m., authorities said.
Berguin was arrested Wednesday in Phenix City and extradited to Columbus. The 14-year-old surrendered to police Friday at the Columbus Public Safety Center, after investigators got warrants for his arrest.
Police anticipate more arrests. Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to contact Sitler at 706-225-4367.
