Columbus mother arrested, charged in March death of 3-month-old infant
A Columbus mother has been charged and arrested in the March death of her 3-month-old son, authorities said Friday.
Tanyankia Roberts, 27, was in court Friday to face charges of murder in the second degree and two counts of cruelty to children in the incident. She was arrested Wednesday, according to staff at the Muscogee County Jail.
On March 30, Columbus police and Emergency Medical Services were called to Wilson Apartments in reference to an unresponsive infant, according to a Columbus Police Department release.
The child, Jamier Roberts, died while being transported to Piedmont Columbus Regional and was pronounced deceased by an emergency room doctor at 8:46 p.m., CPD said.
The body was sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab for an autopsy where it was confirmed that Roberts died of blunt impact injuries to the head and head trauma inflicted by others, Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan said on Oct. 11.
Bryan also stated that, shortly after the incident, Roberts vacated her residence and was “unreachable.”
Judge Julius Hunter bound the case over to Superior Court. Roberts will remain in the Muscogee County Jail on no bond.
