Columbus teen fatally shot near Alford Street marks 60th homicide of the year

A Thursday evening shooting that left a Columbus teen dead will mark the 60th homicide of 2021, Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan said.

Around 5 p.m., officers with the Columbus Police Department were called to a private residence on Alford Street near 25th Avenue in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival, officers found 17-year-old Deondre Reynolds with gunshot wounds.

Reynolds died on scene at 5:40 p.m., Bryan said. His body will be sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab for an autopsy.

CPD’s Homicide Unit is currently investigating. The Ledger-Enquirer was unable to reach CPD for comment at time of publication.

This incident will bring the total homicide count in Columbus to 60. On Nov. 4, 2020, the total homicide count was 38.
