A Columbus 15-year-old died at the scene of a drive-by shooting on Thanksgiving Day, Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan said Thursday.

He identified the boy as Travis Walton, who was shot on the street in the 5200 block of Eton Drive, near Emerson Avenue, where Deputy Coroner Elizabeth Allison pronounced him dead at 12:31 p.m.

The coroner’s staff was notified of the death around noon, Bryan said. Columbus police released no details on the case Thursday.

Eton Drive is off Floyd Road, north of Buena Vista Road, in east Columbus.

Walton’s death marks Columbus’ 64th homicide of 2021, an apparent record for the annual toll. The city had 46 last year, 41 in 2019, and 34 in 2018.
