Teen dies from multiple wounds after shooting at Columbus park, coroner says

A teenager has died after being shot multiple times in a Columbus city park, the coroner said Thursday night.

Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan said 17-year-old Markayla Kalleah Marshall was shot around 6:45 p.m. at Primus King Park, which is on Staunton Drive off Old Cusseta Road in east Columbus.

Marshall was pronounced dead at 7:49 p.m. in the emergency room at Piedmont Columbus Regional, the coroner said.

At least one other person injured in the shooting also was taken to the emergency room, but her wounds were not life threatening, Bryan said.

Marshall’s death marks Columbus’ eighth homicide so far this year.
