Here’s a list of 2022 Columbus homicides, according to authorities

Columbus over the past five years has averaged around 47 homicides annually, with the most recent peak last year, when the city had 70. That surpassed the 46 reported in 2020, according to the Muscogee County coroner.

The city recorded 41 homicides in 2019; 34 in 2018; and 44 in 2017.

Here is a list of Columbus homicides for the year 2022:

1) Jan. 16: Barbara Luke, 71.

Officers called to the 5000 block of Delray Drive around 2 p.m. to reports of gunfire and a car crash found Luke fatally shot in a vehicle that hit a tree, Columbus police said. They gave her chest compressions as paramedics arrived, but rescuers were unable to resuscitate her. Coroner Buddy Bryan pronounced her dead at 2:45 p.m. at the scene,which is off Forrest Road between Floyd Road and Wellborn Drive. Authorities suspect Luke was the victim of stray gunfire. 2) Feb. 2: Kivonte Clark, 25.

Police called at 6:34 p.m. to the Chevron station at 1118 Farr Road found Clark shot. An ambulance took him to Piedmont Columbus Regional, where an emergency room doctor pronounced him dead at 7:04 p.m. Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to contact Detective A. Moyer, 706-225-4435.

3) Feb. 3: Amari Conwell, 23.

Police called at 7:31 p.m. to the 100 block of Sweetwater Drive found Conwell had been shot. An ambulance took him to Piedmont Regional, where an emergency room doctor pronounced him dead at 10:55 p.m. Anyone with information was asked to contact Detective Sherman Hayes at 706-225-4268, 706-653-3400, or shayes@columbusga.org.

4) Feb. 13: Brianna Robinson, 22.

Officers called at 11:54 p.m. Feb. 12 to the Patton Drive area of Benning Hills Park found Robinson and a 19-year-old man shot. Deputy Coroner Charles Newton pronounced Robinson dead from multiple gunshot wounds at 12:54 a.m. Feb. 13, investigators said. The man was critically wounded. 5) Feb. 16: Gary L. Brown, 27.

Police believe Brown was shot in the head around 3:30 p.m. Feb. 14 at a shopping plaza at 915 Amber Drive, just off Buena Vista Road. Rushed to Piedmont Columbus Regional, Brown was in critical condition until he died in the hospital, officers said. According to a police report, investigators suspect a 14-year-old in Brown’s shooting.

6) Feb. 20: Kelson Sabaroche, 34.

Police called at 12:07 a.m. to the 3200 block of Fourth Avenue found Sabaroche wounded. He was rushed to Piedmont Columbus Regional, where an emergency room doctor pronounced him dead at 12:47 a.m. Anyone with information was asked to contact Sgt. 7) Feb. 25: Donquaris Fletcher, 21.

Officers called around 7 a.m. to reports of an unconscious man in the 4500 block of Saunders Drive found Fletcher shot. They summoned paramedics, who determined Flether had died. 8) Feb. 27: Joe Williams, 55.



Police called around 4 p.m. to the 2300 block of Diane Avenue found Williams and two others wounded. Williams and another person were taken to the hospital. The other person was treated and released. 9) March 11: Alonzo Carter, 32.

A Columbus police officer fatally shot Carter about 2:30 a.m. outside The Flame nightclub at 4504 Armour Road, authorities said. According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, a gunfight erupted in the parking lot, prompting two officers working off-duty security at a nearby Chevron gas station to investigate. They confronted Carter and ordered him to drop the gun he was holding, and he refused, the GBI said. One of the officers, later identified as Ryan Vardman, shot Carter, who died at the scene, the agency said. 10) March 31: Markayla Kalleah Marshall, 17.

Marshall was shot around 6:45 p.m. at Primus King Park, on Staunton Drive off Old Cusseta Road in east Columbus, and pronounced dead at 7:49 p.m. in the emergency room at Piedmont Columbus Regional, said Coroner Buddy Bryan. At least one other person injured in the shooting also was taken to the emergency room, but her wounds were not life threatening, Bryan said.

11) April 6: Ricket Carter, 43.

Officers called at 2:34 a.m. to a shooting at SoHo’s Bar and Grill at 5751 Milgen Road found Carter shot. Emergency Medical Services took him to Piedmont Columbus Regional, where an emergency room doctor pronounced him dead at 3:24 a.m., police said. Anyone with information was asked to contact Sgt. 12 and 13) April 10: Na’kevius Petty, 19, and Marque Humber, 19.

Officers called around 6:30 p.m. to reports of gunfire in the 1200 block of Fort Benning Road found Petty and Humber shot. Both were rushed to Piedmont Columbus Regional, where Humber was pronounced dead at 6:48 p.m. and Petty at 7:21 p.m., police said. Anyone with information was asked to call Sgt. 14) April 11: David Brown, 43.

Brown was shot around 3 a.m. April 10 in front of an apartment in the 700 block of Fort Benning Road, and died about 5 p.m. the next day in surgery at Piedmont Columbus Regional, according to Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan. Columbus police released no details on Brown’s shooting.

15) April 27: John Allen Bishop, 50.

Bishop was pronounced dead by a doctor at Piedmont Columbus Regional at 1:39 p.m., said Muscogee County Deputy Coroner Charles Newton. Bishop, 50, was shot multiple times, Newton said. Police said officers called around 1 p.m. to 6200 Olde Towne Drive found Bishop wounded on the ground beside his car. 16) April 30: Michael Williams, 37.

Officers found Williams shot when they were called at 12:12 a.m. to reports of gunfire at Dawson Street and 25th Avenue, police said. Williams was pronounced dead at 12:52 a.m. after medics were unable to resuscitate him. Anyone with information was asked to contact Sgt. Antrellis Williams at 706-225-4329.

17) May 7: Brandon Jones, 26.

Jones was shot in the head March 17 while driving on Forrest Road at Urban Avenue, but lingered on life support in the intensive care unit of Piedmont Columbus Regional until he died at 4:35 p.m. May 7, said Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan.

18) May 25: Nicholas Goode, 21.

Goode accidentally was shot in the left eye as he and a teen relative toyed with a loaded gun in a home on Trestlewood Drive, where police were called at 7:12 p.m., said Coroner Buddy Bryan. Goode was pronounced dead at 7:27 p.m., the coroner said. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation labeled the death a homicide after an autopsy, Bryan said.

19) June 5: Rutravious Loftin, 17.

Officers called at 3:24 p.m. found Loftin shot dead outside a Shell service station at 5757 Buena Vista Road. where Deputy Coroner Elizabeth Allison pronounced him dead at 4 o’clock. 20) June 24: Marcus Price, 45.

Price was among three people hit by gunfire around 7 p.m. at Dawson Street and 25th Avenue, police said. An emergency room doctor pronounced him dead at 7:25 p.m. at Piedmont Columbus Regional, and the others who were wounded survived their injuries, authorities said. 21) July 6: Joshua Ali Sanford, 21.

Shot multiple times, Sanford was found near a bench in Benning Hills Park, 101 Patton Drive, where a passerby seeing the body called police at 6:47 p.m., authorities said. Deputy coroner Elizabeth Allison pronounced Sanford dead there at 7:30 p.m. Anyone with information on the case was asked to contact Sgt. Donna Baker at 706-225-4296 or dbaker@columbusga.org.

22) July 9: Sybearria Paige, 26.

Officers called at 10:48 p.m. to a shooting on Trask Drive found Paige wounded. An ambulance took her to Piedmont Columbus Regional, where an emergency room doctor pronounced her dead at 11:36 p.m., police said. 23) Aug. 6: Jaheim Thomas, 19.

An emergency room doctor pronounced Jaheim Thomas, 19, dead from multiple gunshot wounds at 11:26 p.m., according to Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan. Police said officers called at 10:39 p.m. to the 4300 block of Earline Avenue found two victims shot. The second person, also transported to Piedmont Columbus Regional hospital, was in stable condition, they said. Anyone with information on the shooting was asked to contact Sgt. 24) Aug. 8: Neveah Nevels, 19.

Nevels was among two women who had been shot in a car when officers were called at 10:54 p.m. to Buena Vista Road at Steam Mill Road, police said. Medics were unable to resuscitate Nevels, who was pronounced dead on the scene at 11:47 p.m., according to Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan. The second victim was listed in critical condition at Piedmont Columbus Regional. 25) Aug. 9: Kentrell Leonard, 4 weeks.

The child died from extensive injuries allegedly sustained July 27 while in his father’s care in an apartment on 25th Street, said Coroner Buddy Bryan. Police reports showed the father, DeLonta Williams, 22, was arrested for cruelty to children after officers were called around 6:30 p.m. that day to Piedmont Columbus Regional “in reference to a report of suspected child abuse.” The report described the victim then as a “shaken baby in critical condition.” He died in the pediatric intensive care unit of Scottish Rite Hospital in Atlanta, according to Bryan, who said the baby suffered brain injuries, multiple fractures and bruises.

26) Aug. 10: Caleb Boling, 18.

Boling, from Smiths Station, Alabama, was shot multiple times while sitting in his automobile in the parking lot of a Columbus Walmart store, said Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan. He was pronounced dead on the scene outside the 3515 Victory Drive store at 11:18 p.m., Bryan said.

27) Aug. 13: Jerry Walton, 44.

Walton was pronounced dead at 10:45 p.m. after his burned body was removed from a pickup truck that crashed into a home at the Village Square apartments, 1441 Boxwood Blvd., off Macon Road behind the Columbus Public Library, said Coroner Buddy Bryan. Police called at 9:54 p.m. to an accident with injuries found the building afire after the truck crash, according to a department news release. Bryan said he ruled the death a homicide after finding an apparent bullet wound to the right side of Walton’s skull.

28) Aug. 16: Keith Johnson, 19.

Johnson was pronounced dead at 2:31 p.m. in the intensive care unit at Piedmont Columbus Regional, where he had been on life support, the coroner said. Johnson was shot in the head early Aug. 15 on Eddy Drive, authorities said. Columbus police released no details on the shooting.

29 and 30) Sept. 1: Myshaun Smith, 17; and Anton Hamilton, 18.

Police called at 11:05 p.m. Aug. 31 to a shooting at Eagle Trace Apartments, 2001 Torch Hill Road, found three people had been wounded. Hamilton was pronounced dead from multiple gunshot wounds at the scene at 12:46 a.m. Smith was pronounced dead at the hospital at 12:03 p.m., also from multiple gunshot wounds. The third victim survived, authorities said.

31) Sept. 3: Janleyon Latrevion Langley, 22.

Police called at 6:31 p.m. to a shooting at an apartment at 1223 Kings Mountain Court found Langley wounded in the backyard, investigators said. Medics rushed him to Piedmont Columbus Regional, where an emergency room doctor pronounced him dead from gunshot wounds at 7:09 p.m.

32) Sept. 7: Reginald Lamont Grant II, 30.

Police called at 2:07 p.m. to a domestic dispute in the 4200 block of Earline Avenue were en route when a motorist called 911 to report a man firing a handgun in the air there. Grant ran away when police arrived, and shot an officer in the center of his protective vest during the chase, authorities said. The officer shot back, hitting Grant multiple times, police said. Grant was pronounced dead at 3:02 p.m. The officer hit by gunfire was treated and released from the hospital.

33) Sept. 12: Zachary Castellow, 25.

Police called at 6:37 p.m. to a shooting in the 1600 block of Forestside Drive found Castellow on the ground with multiple wounds. Coroner Buddy Bryan pronounced him dead at the scene at 7 p.m., after medics were unable to revive the victim.

34) Sept. 30: Steven Daniels, 20.

Police called at at 5:38 p.m. to a shooting in the 6100 block of Georgetown Drive found Daniels wounded in a driveway. Rushed to Piedmont Columbus Regional, he was pronounced dead from multiple gunshot wounds at 6:23 p.m., according to the coroner. On Jan. 18, 2023, police announced that their investigation had revealed Daniels was killed while trying to rob the shooter, and they decided Daniels was shot in self-defense. An alleged accomplice was charged with armed robbery.

35 and 36) Oct. 10: Ursula Dietz, 64; and Elenor Dietz, 19 months.

Officers asked at 1:19 p.m. to conduct a welfare check in the 2600 block of Hilton Avenue were on their way when they were told two people were dead. Medics were unable to revive either Ursula Dietz or her granddaughter, and Deputy Coroner Lance Christenson pronounced them dead from multiple gunshot wounds at 2:10 p.m. The woman’s son, Kevin Dietz, 25, was charged with murder in the deaths. 37) Oct. 19: Christopher Williams, 55.

Columbus police said paramedics found Williams dead when they were called at 6:25 a.m. to a medical emergency in the 2400 block of Blan Street. Police said another man repeatedly had hit Williams in the head during an Oct. 13 fight, and an autopsy found he died from blunt-force trauma.

38) Oct. 22: Joseph Patrick Kelly, 30.

Kelly died from multiple wounds after he was shot around 11 p.m. on a front porch on Cantrell Drive, off Victory Drive in the Benning Hills area, authorities said. He was pronounced dead at 11:39 p.m. in the emergency room at Piedmont Columbus Regional, according to Coroner Buddy Bryan.

39) Oct. 23: Marqueyvius Dozier, 19.

Dozier was pronounced dead at 4:58 p.m. in the emergency room at Piedmont Columbus Regional, said Coroner Buddy Bryan. Police said officers called to the 2200 block of Mahan Drive found Dozier wounded in the yard. A second victim, age 14, left the scene by private vehicle for the hospital, and was listed in critical condition, police said. Anyone with information was asked to contact Sgt. 40) Nov. 8: Keamon Marquail Hightower, 28.

Hightower was pronounced dead from multiple gunshot wounds at 12:25 p.m., said Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan. Authorities said the victim was found in the roadway on Parkwood Drive at Braebern Street, south of Buena Vista Road near the city’s old Belvedere Park.

41) Nov. 19: Joshua Huff, 16.

Huff was pronounced dead at 1:48 a.m. in the Piedmont Columbus Regional emergency room after a shooting in the 6200 block of Cross Tie Court, off Gateway Road in a neighborhood bordering Flat Rock Park, authorities said. Police said officers called at 1:15 a.m. were told Huff was standing outside an apartment with others when shots were fired from a passing Range Rover, which was found in a driveway off Warm Springs Road. The Range Rover was reported stolen during an armed robbery on Nov. 13, investigators said.

42) Dec. 21: Marcus Terrell Spellers, 45.

Police called at 10:20 a.m. to reports of a body near Liberty Avenue found Spellers with gunshot wounds. Medics could not revive him, and Deputy Coroner Elizabeth Allison pronounced him dead at 11:25 a.m. Anyone with information was asked to contact Cpl. 43 and 44) Dec. 24: Tamareious Miller, 24; and Jewel Dantzler, 18.

Authorities said Miller was killed and Dantzler critically was wounded in a shooting about 1:20 a.m. Christmas Eve in the 1600 block of Bunker Hill Road, said Coroner Buddy Bryan. Miller died that day, but Dantzler remained on life support to maintain his organs for donation, the coroner said. He was pronounced dead at St. Francis Hospital at 4:18 a.m. Dec. 28, Bryan said.

45) Dec. 24: Zayveion Aimir Walton, 18.

Officers called around 9 a.m. to 501 29th St. found Walton with multiple gunshot wounds on the sidewalk outside the 29th Street Gym, authorities said. He was pronounced dead there at 9:33 a.m., said Coroner Buddy Bryan. Anyone with information on the shooting was asked to contact police Sgt.
