Shooting on Steam Mill Road leaves one dead, Columbus police say. Suspect is in custody

One woman is dead and a homicide investigation is underway after a shooting in the 3900 block of Steam Mill Road, according to Columbus police and Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan.

Bryan identified the victim as 20-year-old Damia Green, who suffered a gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead at 8:05 p.m. Thursday, according to Bryan.

The suspect, who was not identified, is in custody, according to the Columbus Police Department Twitter page.

This marks the 25th homicide in Columbus this year, according to a list compiled by the Ledger-Enquirer. Last year there had been 19 homicides by this point in the year, according to Ledger-Enquirer data.
