One man dead after shooting on Wedgefield Court in south Columbus Thursday night

One man is dead after a shooting Thursday night in the 2500 block of Wedgefield Court in south Columbus, according to officials.

Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan said Deyon Wade, 22, was pronounced dead at the scene at 9:59 p.m. Thursday. An autopsy will be performed.

Columbus police say they were called to the scene around 9:10 p.m. and found Wade lying in the road with a gunshot wound.

This is the 26th homicide in the Columbus area since the beginning of the year, according to a list compiled by the Ledger-Enquirer.

The last homicide to occur in Columbus was on June 9 on Steam Mill Road where a 20-year-old woman was fatally shot.
