Man wanted for Big Cat murder surrenders to police

The suspect in the Big Cat gas station shooting surrendered Sunday afternoon to Columbus police, a day after the victim was pronounced dead at Midtown Medical Center.

Chandler Quentin Saxton, 35, turned himself in after he was being sought by police in connection with the shooting on Thursday at the 2997 Buena Vista Road gas station.

He will appear in Columbus Recorder’s Court at 9 a.m. Tuesday.

John S. Jones, 31, was pronounced dead from gunshot wounds Saturday afternoon at Midtown Medical Center.

He was found Thursday around 7:38 p.m. suffering from three gunshot wounds at the Big Cat gas station. Jones was transported to Midtown Medical Center where he was rushed into surgery.

Police initially released an aggravated assault warrant for Saxton after investigating Thursday’s shooting but changed it to a murder warrant on Saturday after Jones died.

Jones’ death marks the 12th homicide in Columbus this year.
