Suspect arrested in hit-and-run accident that killed pedestrian in Columbus, police say
A suspect has been arrested in the hit-and-run death of a man over the weekend in Columbus, the Columbus Police Department announced Wednesday.
Police said they responded at 1:29 a.m. Sunday to the area of Victory Drive and Benning Road concerning a pedestrian who had been struck by a vehicle that left the scene.
The victim was identified as Anthony Hughley, 38, said Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan.
The suspect, Adonis Cooley, was arrested Monday and charged with homicide by vehicle first degree (felony), hit-and-run and other traffic-related charges, according to a news release from CPD.
The case remains under investigation, police said.
