A man has been arrested and charged in the death of a woman driving a moped in Columbus in November, the Columbus Police Department announced Monday.
Police say John Gary was arrested Monday and charged with second-degree homicide by vehicle, following too closely and speeding in the death of Edith Opry.
The accident occurred Nov. 11 in the area of Macon Road and Reese Road, according to police.
Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan said Opry was stopped at a red light on Macon Road when she was struck from behind by a vehicle.
Bryan said Opry suffered blunt-force trauma to the chest.
Gary is scheduled to appear in Recorder’s Court at 8 a.m. Tuesday, according to the news release.
