Shooting victim’s stepson wanted on murder charge has been arrested, Columbus police say

The man wanted in his stepfather’s death this month has been arrested, the Columbus Police Department announced Tuesday.

Quentez Thrasher, 22, was detained Tuesday and charged with murder (family violence) and possessing a gun during the commission of a crime, police said in a news release.

Thrasher was identified as a suspect after Sonny Chambers, 42, was found shot in the early morning hours of Dec. 5, police said. Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan said the shooting occurred after a domestic dispute.

Emergency responders arrived where Chambers was found, in the 7300 block of Sorrel Court, but they couldn’t revive him. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said Thrasher was scheduled for a court hearing Thursday morning.
