A 20-year-old man has been arrested in the murder of a 15-year-old in Columbus, the Columbus Police Department announced Thursday.

Jeremiah West was arrested Thursday and charged with murder in the death of Elijah Hatcher, police said. He also was charged with possessing a gun during the commission of a crime.

Hatcher was found by police who responded to a shooting in the 1100 block of Celia Drive Wednesday morning. He was suffering from a gunshot wound, and was taken to Piedmont Columbus Regional hospital where he was later pronounced dead, police said.

The Violent Crimes Unit was investigating the case. West was scheduled to appear in Recorder’s Court Monday afternoon, police said.
