Suspect faces murder charge after man found lying dead in a Columbus road

A man has been arrested and charged with murder (party to a crime) in a fatal shooting that left one man dead in the road on Colorado Street in Columbus, the Columbus Police Department announced Monday.

The charges stem from a shooting that left 27-year-old Jaylon Wesley dead, the Ledger-Enquirer reported. Wesley was on a bicycle at the time and was shot multiple times, Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan said.

Police say Calvin Johnson, 37, was taken into custody Friday after a preliminary investigation revealed he was the driver of a vehicle connected to the incident.

Wesley was pronounced dead at 2:36 p.m. on April 11, according to Bryan.

Police say Johnson is scheduled to appear in Recorder’s Court at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.

This is a developing story and may be updated.
