Third suspect arrested in shooting death of 17-year-old in Columbus
A third suspect has been arrested and charged with murder in the April 2024 death of a 17-year-old in Columbus, the Columbus Police Department announced Monday.
Police said Jaquan Mahone, 20, was arrested Monday in Talbotton by CPD’s fugitive unit with assistance from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, Meriwether County Sheriff’s Office and Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
Mahone is charged with murder, three counts of aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime in connection with the death of Daryus Bryant, according to police.
The shooting occurred April 20, 2024, at the intersection of Macon Road and Lakeshore Drive in Columbus, police said. Bryant was taken to a local hospital, where he died, according to police.
Police said a second victim of the shooting underwent emergency surgery and survived.
Mahone is expected to appear in Columbus Recorder’s Court for a preliminary hearing at 8 a.m. Wednesday, according to police.
The second suspect charged in connection with Bryant’s death, Semaj Copeland, 18, turned himself in to authorities July 7 and was charged with murder and three counts of aggravated assault, according to police.
