Suspects arrested in Columbus shooting deaths on Northside Industrial and MLK

Police have arrested suspects in two deadly shootings within the past week, the Columbus Police Department announced in separate news releases Wednesday night.

Walter Bethune, 32, is charged with murder in Wednesday’s shooting death of Lawrence Perry, 54, and Antoine Finch, 20, is charged with involuntary manslaughter and reckless conduct in the Aug. 29 shooting death of Victor Hinton, 17.

Northside Industrial Boulevard shooting death

At 6:16 a.m. Wednesday, police responded to the 1600 block of Northside Industrial Boulevard, the address for the Aludyne foundry, in reference to shots being fired. A second call was received from St. Francis Hospital in reference to a shooting victim. Officers determined both incidents were related, CPD said.

Perry was transported to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries, police said.

CPD’s Violent Crimes Unit was called to the scene to lead the investigation. With the help of CPD’s Fugitive Unit and the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, Bethune was found in Smiths Station and taken into custody, according to the news release.

As of Wednesday night, Bethune was being held in the Lee County Jail, awaiting extradition to Columbus.

Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard shooting death

At 3:08 p.m. Aug. 29, police responded to the 1700 block of Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival, officers found a male (later identified as Hinton) suffering from a gunshot wound, CPD said.

Hinton was transported to Piedmont Columbus Regional’s midtown hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries, police said.

CPD’s Violent Crimes Unit was called to the scene to lead the investigation. Police arrested Finch on Tuesday.
