Five suspects, including three juveniles, have been arrested and charged with murder in the “unprovoked” killing of an 18-year-old girl this month in Columbus, police said Wednesday.

Kalielah Davis was shot and killed Sept. 5 in the 1000 block of Bay Avenue, the Ledger-Enquirer reported.

Police said Kacin Grant, 21, was arrested Wednesday and charged with murder, aggravated assault (five counts) and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. Grant is awaiting extradition from Alabama, according to police.

Police said Lamarcus Williams, 18, was arrested Wednesday and charged with murder, aggravated assault (five counts) and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. Williams is scheduled for a preliminary hearing at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to police.

The other suspects — two who are 15 and one who is 16 — are charged with murder, aggravated assault (five counts), possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and possession of a firearm under 18 years old.

It is Ledger-Enquirer policy not to name suspects under the age of 18.

Police said the 16-year-old suspect had his preliminary hearing Wednesday. The case was bound over to Superior Court with no bond.

Both 15-year-old suspects have their preliminary hearings set for 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to police.

CPD said its violent crimes unit, fugitive unit, real time crime center and the Phenix City Police Department assisted in the arrests.

The shooting

Columbus police called the shooting that killed Davis an “unprovoked” attack, the Ledger-Enquirer reported.

CPD deputy chief of the Bureau of Investigative Services Matt Blackstock told the Ledger-Enquirer last Wednesday that Davis had gone to the area with some friends and was parked close to the Kadie the Cow statue near the Chattahoochee Riverwalk.

“For some reason,” he said, “a young person that was with this group of four or five males fired a round in the direction of the car and hit the victim in the head.”
