Fugitive task force and SWAT team arrest Phenix City murder suspect
A suspect in a shooting death last month in Phenix City has been arrested and charged with murder and attempted murder, police announced Thursday.
The U.S. Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force, with assistance from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency SWAT Team, arrested 28-year-old JaMarrie Deaundre Leonard, of Hurtsboro in the Sept. 29 killing of LeNorris Boyd Jr., the Phenix City Police Department send in a news release.
Leonard was arrested in Eufaula and will be transported back to Phenix City, where he will be booked into the Russell County Jail, police said.
The PCPD announced in a news release last month that officers responded around 9:40 p.m. Sept. 29 to a call about shots being fired at Brookwood Apartments on College Drive.
Officers found two people suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, according to the news release.
Police said Boyd., 33, of Dothan was pronounced dead at the scene. Russell County Coroner Arthur Sumbry Jr. said the time of death was 10:30 p.m. The other victim, a 31-year-old woman, was taken to a Columbus hospital with injuries.
