Three men sentenced in shooting death of teen outside Columbus hotel
Three men were sentenced Thursday in the 2024 shooting death of a 16-year-old outside a Columbus hotel, the Columbus Police Department announced Saturday.
Police said Ty’Quavious Richmond, Patrick Montgomery Jr. and Dereon Montgomery each received life with the possibility of parole, plus an additional five years for possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, in connection with the 2024 death of 16-year-old Dennie Henderson.
The news release says a Muscogee County jury delivered the verdict Oct. 3, 2025, when they found all three guilty of malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
Henderson was found dead March 24, 2024, after officers responded to reports of gunfire in the parking lot of Springhill Suites in the 5400 block of Whittlesey Boulevard, police said.
Henderson suffered multiple gunshot wounds, Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan said at the time.
“During the course of the investigation, detectives determined that Richmond, Montgomery Jr., and Montgomery acted together in the events that led to the shooting,” the news release says.
Investigators gathered evidence that confirmed the presence and involvement of all three defendants, according to police.
Police said Richmond was arrested May 16, 2024, and the other two defendants were arrested Sept. 17, 2024, in Lee County, Alabama, and extradited to Columbus the next day.
The CPD Violent Crimes Unit led the investigation, supported by the Digital Forensics Unit and the Real Time Crime Center, the news release says.
CPD thanked the Chattahoochee Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for their work to win the convictions.
