Suspect arrested, charged with murder in shooting at Columbus apartment complex

A suspect has been arrested in connection with the death of a man shot at a Columbus apartment complex over the weekend, the Columbus Police Department announced Monday.

Police said Donald Fair, 32, was arrested Monday in connection with the death of 30-year-old Demetrius Wilkerson early Saturday morning at Azalea Ridge Apartments in the 1400 block of Boxwood Blvd.

Officers responded at 3:32 a.m. Saturday to the apartment complex, where they found Wilkerson suffering from a gunshot wound, according to the news release.

Wilkerson was pronounced dead at 4:10 a.m. Saturday, according to police.

Police said Fair is charged with murder, two counts of aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan said Wilkerson was a passenger in a car shot in the parking lot.

Wilkerson suffered multiple gunshot wounds in a drive-by shooting, according to Bryan.

Police said Fair is scheduled to appear in Columbus Recorder’s Court at 8:30 a.m. Thursday.
