Jury announces verdict in murder trial about death at Columbus Water Works park

A man has been found guilty of malice murder in the 2020 death of a man at a park owned by Columbus Water Works, according to court documents.

The Muscogee County Superior Court jury found Justin Rondu Reeves guilty of all charges in the July 3, 2020, death of Kendrick Young at the park near Veterans Parkway and 18th Street, according to court documents.

Reeves was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole on the count of malice murder, according to the court portal. He faces a consecutive sentence of five years on the charge of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, according to the court portal.

The court portal says Reeves also was sentenced to 20 years for aggravated assault and 10 years for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, both to be served concurrently with the malice murder sentencing.

The case was presided over by Superior Court Judge Gil McBride, according to the court portal.
