Man denies brutal knife assault

A man accused of slashing a Columbus woman more than 10 times with a 14-inch knife before taking $140 pleaded not guilty Thursday to aggravated assault and other charges in Columbus Recorder's Court.

Corey Ingram, 37, also was charged with armed robbery, obstruction of a police officer, tampering with evidence and possession of a knife during the commission of a crime in the Sept. 11 assault. Judge Mary Buckner ordered Ingram held without bond on the assault and robbery charges and set bonds totaling $15,000 on the other offenses. All charges were bound over to Superior Court.

Police officer Jacob Sitter said officers were called to the 800 block of Flecther Avenue at 8:58 p.m. when they found Junita Holt in a pool of blood in the living room. Before passing out, she told officers that Ingram assaulted her and fled.

Holt told police that she had given Ingram $5 to go to the store and buy her some hair dye. When he returned, Ingram was in the kitchen where he retrieved one of her knives.

Holt kept her money in a locked bedroom and Ingram demanded the key. She was slashed on her arms, face and upper body during the assault to get the key.

Police said $140 was removed from her bedroom.

In their search for Ingram, Sitter said the suspect was found burning bloody clothes in the backyard of a home in the area. Clad in his underwear, Ingram was chased by police before he was taken into custody on Garden Drive.

During his arrest, Ingram is accused of trying to remove items from an officer's belt before he was hit with a Taser.

Holt was in court during the hearing. She testified that she has known Ingram a long time. He was aware that she kept money in the locked bedroom.

Represented by Charles Lykins, Ingram stood silent during the hearing and didn't testify.
