Man charged in Christmas Day shooting at Waffle House

Columbus Police have arrested the 27-year-old man accused in the Dec. 25 Waffle House shooting that wounded one.

Darrius Markell Dillard, the alleged shooter, was taken into custody 9 a.m. Wednesday at the Clay County Jail and charged with aggravated assault, reckless conduct, first-degree damage to business property, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. He’s scheduled to face those charges 9 a.m. Saturday in Columbus Recorder’s Court.

Police said they were called to the 4005 Buena Vista Road restaurant around 10:30 p.m. Christmas Day after shots were fired from the parking lot.

Witnesses described the shooter as a slim black man with long dreadlocks. He was wearing white pants and a black shirt when he shot a man in the left arm and fired toward four others who escaped injury, officials said in a police report released today.

One woman told police she was sitting at the bar in the Waffle House when the window next to her shatter. Two other individuals who were sitting in a booth by the front door said they heard four or five gunshots.
