A Columbus State University leader is a finalist for a similar job elsewhere
One of Columbus State University’s leaders is a finalist for a similar job at a Texas university.
Deborah Bordelon, CSU’s second-in-command as the provost and executive vice president, is among five finalists to be the next provost and senior vice president for academic affairs at the University of Houston-Downtown. The four other finalists announced by UHD are:
- Alberto “Bert” Ruiz, associate athletics director for student-athlete excellence and vice president for academic affairs at the University of Louisiana-Monroe.
- Ralf Peetz, associate provost for undergraduate studies and student success at the College of Staten Island.
- Shafik Dharamsi, senior adviser to the provost at New Mexico State University.
- Clare Weber, deputy provost and vice provost for academic programs at California State University-San Bernardino.
Each finalist is scheduled for on-campus visits and public forums this month. Bordelon’s visit is set for Feb. 14-15.
As she is at CSU, Bordelon would be the chief academic officer and report to the president at UHD.
The Ledger-Enquirer didn’t reach Bordelon for comment before publication.
Bordelon, who was hired at CSU in December 2017, was among four finalists in September 2020 to be chancellor at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
She previously was the provost and vice president for academic affairs at Governors State University in Illinois. She has held teaching and administrative posts at Nicholls State University and Xavier University in Louisiana.
Bordelon earned a doctorate in special education, a master’s degree in education and a bachelor’s degree in elementary education, all from the University of New Orleans.
