Columbus area school closings. Will in-person classes reopen after winter snow storm?

After the winter snow that blanketed the Columbus area Tuesday, local school closures are continuing into Thursday.
Officials in the Chattahoochee Valley made the following announcements Wednesday about whether their schools will remain closed, reopen, resume in-person classes or stay remote with virtual instruction online:
Muscogee County
Due to hazardous road conditions expected from freezing temperatures Wednesday in the Columbus area, all Muscogee County School District schools will continue on a virtual schedule and district offices will remain closed Thursday, MCSD announced Wednesday afternoon.
The following adjustments have been made:
- All field trips scheduled for Thursday are canceled.
- All afterschool activities, including athletics are canceled for Thursday.
Harris County
The Harris County School District announced Wednesday the extension of school closures through Thursday due to ongoing hazardous winter weather conditions.
“The Harris County Emergency Management Services (HCEMS) has deemed all roads impassable through tomorrow until further notice,” the news release says.
This decision includes the cancellation of all after-school activities and planned events.
Chattahoochee County
Due to hazardous road conditions, the Chattahoochee County School District will conduct a virtual learning day Thursday, ChattCo announced Wednesday on its website.
“Teachers will be communicating with students any assignments, projects, and/or work in Google Classroom,” the announcement says. “All after-school activities will be canceled.”
Phenix City
Due to hazardous road conditions expected from refreezing overnight, all Phenix City Schools and district offices will be closed Thursday, PCS announced Wednesday afternoon on its Instagram page.
All PCS after-school activities are canceled.
Russell County
Due to the hazardous road conditions, the Russell County School District will remain remote Thursday, RCSD announced Wednesday afternoon.
Students should not report to school campuses.
“Students will continue to access assignments posted via Google Classroom and/or paper copies of assignments that were sent home by their teachers on Friday,” the news release says. “All employees will also work from home on Thursday.”
St. Anne-Pacelli Catholic School
St. Anne-Pacelli Catholic School will have another virtual learning day Thursday, the school announced Wednesday afternoon.
“Our Preschool will be closed,” the news release says. “All after-school activities are canceled. Teachers will communicate virtual learning assignments via email to parents of students in Pre-K through 4th grades and in Google Classroom for grades 5-12.”
Columbus State University
Columbus State University will continue virtual operations and instruction Thursday, CSU announced Wednesday afternoon.
“Decisions regarding Friday’s plans will be emailed to students and employees by 4 p.m. on Thursday and posted at columbusstate.edu/emergency/,” the news release says.
