School closings in Columbus area. Which ones will reopen or stay with virtual classes?

Chattahoochee Valley families with children attending school in the Columbus area are wondering whether schools will stay closed Friday after Tuesday’s snow storm.

Here’s a list of Thursday’s decisions from local officials about school operations for Friday, which will be updated as more are announced:

Muscogee County

Due to several impassable roads and the hazardous road conditions that still exist in several parts of the Columbus area, all Muscogee County School District schools will continue with virtual learning Friday, MCSD announced Thursday afternoon on its Facebook page.

District offices will remain closed. All field trips, athletics and other after-school activities scheduled for Friday are canceled.

Harris County

The Harris County School District announced Thursday afternoon the extension of school closures through Friday as hazardous road conditions persist across the area.

“Despite efforts to address the aftermath of this week’s winter storm, many surface roads remain ice-covered and unsafe for travel,” the news release says.

This decision includes the cancellation of all after-school activities and planned events for Friday.

Chattahoochee County

School closures in the Chattahoochee County School District are extended to Friday, the district announced Thursday afternoon on its Facebook page.

“We plan to resume our normal school schedule on Monday,” the news release says.

PCS also announced it postponed the Jan. 23 combined board work session and meeting until Jan. 28. The work session will start at 5:30 p.m., followed by the board meeting at 7 p.m.

Russell County

Due to hazardous road conditions, the Russell County School District will remain with remote learning and work Friday, RCSD announced on its Facebook page Thursday afternoon.

“Students will continue to access assignments posted via Google Classroom and/or paper copies of assignments that were sent home by their teachers on Friday,” the post says. “All employees will also work from home on Friday. . . . We plan for normal operations to resume on Monday.”
