Phenix City police chief to speak at CVCC graduation
Phenix City’s Police Chief Ray Smith will be the commencement speaker at Chattahoochee Valley Community College’s spring 2016 graduation.
The ceremony is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. May 12 in CVCC’s Key Hall.
Smith graduated from CVCC with an associate’s degree in criminal justice. He then earned bachelor’s degree in human services and a master’s degree in psychology from Troy University. He also has graduated from the FBI National Academy and is a SWAT certified instructor.
Smith served in the Phenix City Police Department for 27 years, including seven as chief.
“We are honored to have Chief Smith join us for this occasion and look forward to the message he has for our graduates, especially as a CVCC graduate himself,” CVCC interim president Mark Ellard said in a news release.
The faculty marshals in the ceremony will be mathematics department chairwoman Mary Johnson and business and social science department chairman Robert Dansby. The student marshals will be Tiffany Gibson and Luke Hammock.
CVCC has approximately 150 students eligible to graduate.
