Fort Benning soldier dies after collapsing during training session, Army says

A Fort Benning soldier died this week following a physical training session, Army officials said Friday.

Pvt. Brian Edwards, 31, with the D Company, 1st Battalion, 50th Infantry Regiment collapsed during physical training on May 20. Edwards was later pronounced dead at Martin Army Community Hospital, according to a press release.

Edwards, from Hampton, Virginia, entered the Army on Jan. 15. His death is currently under investigation, according to the release.

Fort Benning trains more than 58,000 personnel annually, supplying 35% of the Army’s new soldiers.
