One killed, one hurt in skydiving plane crash at airport, California police say
A skydiving plane crash Friday, June 3, at an Oceanside airport killed a woman and injured a man, California police told news outlets.
The plane crashed at 1:48 p.m. local time near Bob Maxwell Memorial Field, Oceanside police reported on Twitter.
Onlookers told KNSD the single-engine Cessna 208B was returning to land at the airport after dropping off parachutists.
“I told my friend who was standing with me, ‘Hey this plane’s about to crash,’” Graham Jones Kellet told KFMB. “Sure enough, hit the dirt.”
A woman and man aboard the plane were injured, authorities told KGTV. The woman later died. Her name has not been released.
GoJump America, a skydiving company that owns the crashed plane, told KNSD it had been leased to the two pilots.
The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the crash, the Times of San Diego reported.
Oceanside, which has a population of 173,000, is a city on the California coast between San Diego and Los Angeles.
