A Columbus Council subcommittee has recommended the deputy clerk of council be promoted to fill the clerk of council position after the death of Sandra Davis this month.

The council will vote March 11 on a resolution appointing deputy clerk Lindsey McLemore as the new clerk, the Columbus Consolidated Government announced Wednesday.

Councilor Charmaine Crabb of District 5, Councilor Joanne Cogle of District 7 and Councilor Bruce Huff of District 1 are the subcommittee members recommending McLemore for the role.

This recommendation comes after city officials lamented the death of Davis, who served as the Clerk of Council since 2019.

McLemore has served as the deputy clerk since 2015, and she served as the interim clerk in 2018.

“Lindsey’s knowledge of the Clerk’s duties, excellent customer service skills, and attention to detail means that the Clerk’s Office will be in good hands with her at the helm,” Mayor Pro Tem Gary Allen said in the news release.

McLemore, a Columbus native, began working for CCG in 2008, working in the Parks and Recreation Department and the Columbus Police Department.

“I am grateful for this opportunity and for the Council’s trust in me,” McLemore said in the release. ”I am delighted to serve the citizens of Columbus and to work with the city council.”
