10 Columbus-area dishes are up for “best of the town.” Vote to get your favorite through

What Columbus-specific food is your favorite?
What Columbus-specific food is your favorite?

Columbus may be the home of the world’s first scrambled dog, but our local foodie culture goes far beyond just chili and weenies.

The Ledger asked our readers to nominate a dish or a particular food that felt especially Columbus to them. We wanted to go beyond scrambled dogs to find some real hidden gems or, depending on who you ask, some not-so-hidden-gems.

After a weeks-long call out, we have a very respectable list of nominees and now it’s up to you, dear readers, to find the best.

Vote for the dish or food that is unique to Columbus. Which one of the below nominees is the best of Columbus food culture?

The nominees

  • Collard Green Eggrolls - Country’s Barbecue
  • Smitty’s Boiled Peanuts
  • Mama Kay’s Cheesecake - Mabella
  • Pineapple Casserole - Black Cow
  • Fried Chicken Meat and Three - Minnie’s Uptown Restaurant
  • Biscuits and Tomato Gravy - Ruth Ann’s Restaurant
  • Fried Catfish and Hushpuppies - Ezell’s Catfish
  • Mongolian Beef - Golden Chopstix Korean Restaurant
  • Camel Rider ”House Specialty” - Speakeasy
  • Caribbean Chicken Wings - B. Merrell’s
  • Texas Tamale - Tamale Time

How to vote:

Share this poll with anyone you’ve ever shared a plate with and vote as many times as you like. The first round closes at noon on Jan. 23, so make sure your favorite makes the cut.

I highly encourage you to take the Columbus food tour and test as many of these dishes as you can, and document your taste tests by sending me all the snaps and pics at srose@ledger-enquirer.com or find me on social media.
