Good news for Georgians: the state ranks 5th in the country for conditions associated with slower aging, according to a new analysis of sunlight, water quality, and population health data.

The hydrogen water company, Purify, puts Georgia as the fifth-slowest aging state in the US in an aging index built using publicly available data, and factors in more than just demographics.

How they got the rankings

The report says it built its aging index using four main inputs:

  • Annual sunlight: More sun linked to vitamin D, mood, and outdoor activity; associated with slower aging
  • Search interest in aging concerns: Poor water linked to toxin exposure and inflammation
  • Quality of drinking water: Poor water linked to toxin exposure and inflammation
  • Median age: Scaled separately to separate environmental factors from baseline demographics

Georgia’s aging factors

Georgia scored an aging index of 0.69 out of 1.0, tying with Tennessee.

The factors:

  • Sunlight percentage: 66%
  • Percentage of population searching “age:” 1.85%
  • Drinking water quality: 7 out of 10
  • Average age of population: 38

It’s worth noting that the rankings come from Piurify, a hydrogen water company, with an assumed interest in aging-related concerns and that some of the findings haven’t been independently verified.
