How bad will the weather be this weekend in GA? Experts warn to ‘take it seriously’
Georgia’s weather may have taken a turn for the warmer recently, but clear skies are not in the forecast. Prepare for potentially severe weather conditions in the coming days.
The Weather Channel reports that the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has issued a severe weather risk level of 4 out of 5 for the South and Midwest.
This means some areas of Georgia are likely to experience a stormy weekend, with an increased risk of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and possible flooding.
In fact, TWC warns about this level of threat, calling it uncommon, which can mean “supercells [that] are capable of strong tornadoes, or long-lived squall lines [that] are expected to produce widespread damaging winds.”
Take this threat seriously
What to expect
The weather should move in by Friday afternoon, but the worst of it for Georgia will be Saturday into Saturday night, predicted the Weather Channel.
Significant tornadoes, possibly EF2 or stronger
Damaging wind gusts
Large hail
Heavy rainfall, which may lead to flooding concerns
Prepare for severe weather
Stay informed: Watch local weather forecasts and enable severe weather alerts on your phone.
Create an emergency kit: Make sure you have essentials like non-perishable food, water, flashlights, and batteries.
Secure outdoor items: Bring in or tie down any loose outdoor furniture or yard items
Know where to seek shelter: An interior room on the lowest floor is usually the safest.
Check your insurance: Review your homeowners or renters insurance to ensure coverage for storm damage.
Remember: weather patterns can change in an instant and the look ahead is just a prediction. While we’re accustomed to March coming in like a lion, the combination of elements could trigger numerous thunderstorms, some that could produce tornadoes.
