Chattahoochee Valley High School Football Rundown: Week 3
Now that all the local teams have played at least one game, it’s time to unveil the Chattahoochee Valley High School Football Rundown.
Each week, we will rank all 19 teams in our coverage area. If you think your team is a little too low one week, fear not; the ranking will likely change considerably week after week.
Here is our first edition of the rundown:
1. Central Record: 1-0 (0-0) Last Week: W 33-7 vs Bob Jones This Week: Sept. 1 vs Fairfield, 8 p.m.
2. Hardaway Record: 1-1 (0-0) Last Week: W 20-15 vs Harris County This Week: Sept. 1 at Lee County, 7:30 p.m.
Through two games, the Hawks have been one of the most consistent teams in the Chattahoochee Valley. With senior running back Marco Lee carrying the load and quarterback Dominique Ford finding his playmakers at receiver like Orion Lowe and Jakhari Thomas, Hardaway’s offense seems capable of going up against any of the local teams. Hardaway head coach Michael Woolridge said the team needs a big road win to prove itself, and the Hawks will get their chance this week.
3. Manchester Record: 2-0 (0-0) Last Week: W 44-13 vs Luella This Week: Sept. 1 at Southwest-Macon, 7:30 p.m.
4. Columbus Record: 1-0 (0-0) Last Week: W 47-32 vs Jordan This Week: Sept. 1 vs Upson-Lee (Kinnett Stadium), 5 p.m.
Columbus head coach Phil Marino said during the preseason that this edition of the Blue Devils may have the greatest collection of speed he’s had since coming to Columbus in 2009. The Blue Devils sure showed it Saturday against Jordan, as new quarterback Donovan Carter made plays through the air and on the ground and got plenty of help from Tavian Edwards, Trey Peterson, Darius Hill and Mike Ramsey. Friday’s game against Upson-Lee will likely show whether or not the Blue Devils’ big outburst Saturday can be sustained.
5. Northside Record: 1-0 (0-0) Last Week: Bye Week This Week: Aug. 31 vs Spencer (Kinnett Stadium), 7 p.m.
6. Glenwood Record: 1-1 (0-0): Last Week: W 56-7 vs Calvary Christian This Week: vs Northside Methodist, 8 p.m.
7. Spencer Record: 1-0 (0-0) Last Week: W 28-18 vs Carver This Week: Aug. 31 vs Northside (Kinnett Stadium), 7 p.m.
8. Marion County Record: 2-0 (0-0) Last Week: W 13-12 vs Chattahoochee County This Week: Bye Week
9. Harris County Record: 1-1 (0-0) Last Week: L 20-15 at Hardaway This Week: Bye Week
10. Jordan Record: 1-1 (0-0) Last Week: L 47-32 vs Columbus This Week: Bye Week
11. Brookstone Record: 1-1 (0-0) Last Week: W 56-14 vs Central (Talbotton) This Week: Sept. 1 at First Presbyterian, 7:30 p.m.
12. Carver Record: 0-2 (0-0) Last Week: L 28-18 vs Spencer This Week: Sept. 1 at Douglas County, 7:30 p.m.
The start to the season has been unkind to new head coach Calvin Arnold and the Tigers, who start the season 0-2 for the first time since 1998. The Tigers’ loss to rival Spencer broke an 18-game win streak over the Greenwave, and the next in line isn’t any easier. Douglas County is a 6A school which just beat Lithia Springs 68-0.
13. Chattahoochee County Record: 0-1 (0-0) Last Week: L 13-12 at Marion County This Week: Sept. 1 vs Baconton Charter, 7:30 p.m.
14. Calvary Christian Record: 1-1 (1-0) Last Week: L 56-7 at Glenwood This Week: Sept. 1 at Lee-Scott Academy, 8 p.m.
15. Russell County Record: 0-1 (0-0) Last Week: L 21-14 at Tallassee This Week: Sept. 1 vs Valley, 8 p.m.
16. Shaw Record: 0-1 (0-0) Last Week: L 34-6 vs Upson-Lee This Week: Sept. 1 vs Kendrick (Kinnett Stadium), 8 p.m.
Shaw gets the nod ahead of two other 0-1 teams due to the early departure of quarterback Elisha Ammi in Saturday’s loss to the Knights. The Raiders offense better figure things out in a hurry if Ammi is to miss an extended amount of time, because it sure struggled to string drives together against Upson-Lee. This week’s matchup between Kendrick will show which of these slow-starting teams can surge going forward.
17. Kendrick Record: 0-1 (0-0) Last Week: L 36-8 vs Troup This Week: Sept. 1 vs Shaw (Kinnett Stadium), 8 p.m.
18. Smiths Station Record: 0-1 (0-0) Last Week: L 51-0 vs Opelika This Week: at Dothan, 8 p.m.
19. Pacelli Record: 0-2 (0-0) Last Week: L This Week: Bye Week
It was no secret new head coach Mark LeGree’s rebuild would not happen overnight, and that’s been evident through two games in which Pacelli has been outscored 99-12. On the bright side, the Vikings have a week to regroup before facing Marion County on Sept. 8.
