Chattahoochee Valley High School Football Rundown: Week 9

Several local high school football teams had their bye weeks this week, but those that played showed off their talents in region matchups.

Among those was Marion County, which has responded to a 30-0 loss to Manchester three weeks ago with victories over Greenville and Brookstone. Led by running back Travon Matthews, the Eagles seem to be back on track.

Here’s the latest Rundown. All games are on Friday unless otherwise indicated:

1. Central Record: 6-0 (3-0) Last Week: W 55-7 at Enterprise This Week: vs Jefferson Davis, 8 p.m.

2. Manchester Record: 7-0 (4-0) Last Week: W 68-14 at Pacelli This Week: vs Brookstone, 7:30 p.m.

The Blue Devils have absolutely dominated the last three weeks, outscoring their region opponents 148-14. Their game against the Vikings Friday was 54-14 at the half, demonstrating just how much of a tear Manchester is on right now. The Blue Devils have an interesting matchup against Brookstone this Friday before a bye week.

3. Northside Record: 5-1 (2-1) Last Week: Bye Week This Week: vs Hardaway (Kinnett Stadium), 7 p.m. Thursday

4. Hardaway Record: 3-3 (2-1) Last Week: Bye Week This Week: vs Northside (Kinnett Stadium), 7 p.m. Thursday

5. Spencer Record: 4-2 (1-0) Last Week: W 12-7 vs Jordan This Week: at Temple, 7:30 p.m.

The Spencer offense was far from perfect Friday, as head coach Pierre Coffey noted after the game. But the offense did enough, as did the defense, which stopped three late Jordan drives that reached Spencer territory. The Greenwave need grind-it-out wins like Friday’s in order to contend in Region 5-2A.

9. Glenwood Record: 4-4 (1-2) Last Week: W 40-0 at Edgewood Academy This Week: vs Bessemer Academy, 8 p.m.

10. Chattahoochee County Record: 3-3 (3-2) Last Week: W 19-16 vs Miller County This Week: vs Calhoun County, 7:30 p.m.

11. Harris County Record: 3-3 (0-0) Last Week: Bye Week This Week: at Warner Robins, 7:30 p.m.

12. Columbus Record: 2-4 (1-2) Last Week: W 13-7 vs Shaw This Week: vs Westover (Kinnett Stadium), 7:30 p.m.

The Columbus quarterback situation will be one to watch, as Hunter Hemmings and Caleb Bailey split time at the spot with starter Donovan Carter sidelined with injury. After the Shaw victory, Columbus head coach Phil Marino said the team could make a mess of Region 1-4A; that is, if the Blue Devils can win Friday’s homecoming game against Westover.
