Ha-Seong Kim talks Columbus Clingstones rehab assignment, Braves’ great start
Gold Glove winner and Atlanta Braves shortstop Ha-Seong Kim talked to reporters Thursday about his injury timeline, the Braves’ explosive open to the season and his time so far with the Columbus Clingstones for an injury rehab assignment.
Kim told reporters he isn’t sure of the exact date he will return to the Braves.
“I’ll just be able to return when my body feels OK,” he said through his interpreter.
The Braves have the most wins in Major League Baseball this season with 22 wins, while three other teams (the Dodgers, Reds and Yankees) are tied for second at 20 wins.
Kim said the Braves are off to a great start.
“We got a really talented group of guys and a great coaching staff as well, great teammates,” he said. “So, I’m just excited to join the team.”
Clingstones start
Kim is the first MLB player sent to the Clingstones for an injury rehab assignment.
He got his first opportunity to play with the Clingstones in Wednesday’s game against the Montgomery Biscuits at Synovus Park, where he went 1-for-2 with a single and a stolen base while batting second in the lineup.
Kim said he had fun playing his first game in Columbus.
“It was great to play alongside with such talented players,” he said, “and I feel like there’s a good group of guys here as well.”
Kim hasn’t played with the Braves yet this season after undergoing surgery in January.
Injury progress
Kim was sent to the Clingstones for a rehab assignment after being placed on the 10-day injured list for a right middle finger laceration, according to mlb.com.
When asked whether he feels 100%, Kim said, “Yeah, I think it’s 100%. I have no problems playing in games or any restrictions.”
Kim said his goal after returning to the Braves will be to stay healthy and perform so he can contribute to the Braves and win a World Series.
