Recruiting Roundup: Countdown to Signing Day is officially on

We’re now less than a week away from the February edition of National Signing Day. Though we’ll have more news on the big day, there are several developments worth sharing.

The two biggest unsigned prospects, Central’s Justyn Ross and Northside’s Caleb Johnson, have their signing times set. Ross will sign at Central at 1 p.m. EST Wednesday, while Johnson will sign at Northside at 2:30 p.m.

As of press time, this is the schedule for Wednesday’s signings ceremonies. These times are subject to change:

9:30 a.m. EST - Glenwood School

10 a.m. - Smiths Station

1 p.m. - Central

2 p.m. - Carver

2:30 p.m. - Northside

2:45 p.m. - Harris County

Central wide receiver Derrick Moore has committed to Community Christian College, a junior college in Hampton, Va.

Central quarterback Peter Parrish has seen his offers grow to eight, with Troy and Cincinnati being the latest schools to join the list.

Central defensive back Ray Thornton received an offer from South Alabama. Thornton has offers from Duke and Mississippi State.

Central running back Jamaar Spivey has received offers from Sterling College in Sterling, Kan., Point University and Bethel University in St. Paul, Minn. Spivey visited Point on Jan. 31.

Central offensive lineman David Grant has received an offer from Point University.

Russell County offensive lineman Omar Thomas has received offers from Gulf Coast Prep Sports Academy in Mobile, Ala., and Birmingham Prep.

Russell County defensive end Damon Lloyd has received offers from Highland Community College in Highland, Kan., West Alabama, Alabama State and Alabama A&M.

Harris County tight end Davis Day will visit Jacksonville University in Jacksonville, Fla., on Feb. 10.

Northside running back Fred Davis has been invited to represent Georgia on the 2018 Down Under Sports football team. The Down Under Bowl will be played in Australia this summer.

Baseball

Shaw catcher Alex Marquand has committed to Georgia Highlands. Marquand had a .425 batting average with 34 hits, 1 home run and 21 RBIs in 2017.

Softball

Northside first baseman Ciara Jesus signed with Point University on Thursday. Jesus posted a .325 batting average with 26 hits, 3 home runs and 26 RBIs in 2017. Jesus was one of two seniors who helped Northside capture the Class 4A state title this past fall.

Girls Golf

Northside golfer Landon Cumbie signed with Point University on Thursday.
